Now this last of the season mango, delicious, juicy and wonderfully aromatic has an interesting story behind its name. Belonging to the regions of Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The mango gets is name from a historical battle fought at Chaunsa, Bihar towards the end of June 1539 between Sher Shah Suri and Humanyun. The battle was fought at the beginning of the fruiting season of the chaunsa mango so we would like to picture the soldiers, all those centuries ago, eating mangoes straight of the branches, so much so that the variety was given the name of the place where it all happened.
One of its other iconic names is Bahist-e-Samar ("Mango of Paradise"). We have to love the fact that mother nature leaves the best for last.
The chaunsa is available from the first week of July to mid August. A wonderful golden colour, this mango is quite the star. To those who love Dasheri or Langra must always like Chausa because its flavour profile appeals to both palettes.
5 kg mangoes averaging to 24 mangoes a carton. Naturally ripening mangoes directly from our orchards to your doorstep.
